Frequently Asked Questions

IMPACT MetroWest – Coaching-First Strength Training FAQs

We specialize in Stronger After 40… and we welcome anyone who wants real coaching, smart progress, and pain-free performance.

What is IMPACT Metrowest?

IMPACT is a coaching-first strength training gym in Framingham serving MetroWest (Natick, Wayland, Sudbury, Weston and beyond). We help busy adults lose fat, build muscle, increase energy, and move better—without getting beat up.
Our specialty is Stronger After 40 because that’s where precision matters most.
But if you’re under 40 and you want intelligent training, you’ll thrive here too.

What makes us different from a typical gym or bootcamp?

A typical gym gives you equipment. A bootcamp gives you sweat. We give you coaching—the kind that solves problems fast:

  • We teach you how to move well first, then load it
  • We use progressions and regressions so every workout fits your body
  • We focus on the big patterns: squat, hinge, lunge, push, pull, carry
  • We coach the details: breathing, posture, control, and smart intensity

Coach Peter lens: most aches/pains are “strategy problems,” not “you problems.” We fix the strategy—so you stop leaking energy and start stacking wins.

Is this gym only for adults over 40?

No, we welcome all ages. Our positioning is clear:

  • Specialty: adults 40+ who want strength, energy, fat loss, and pain-free training
  • Fit for anyone: people of any age who want structured programming, expert coaching, and long-term progress

If you want results without chaos, you’re in the right place.

What is functional strength training?

Functional training is strength training that improves real-life. We train the patterns your body uses daily:

  • squatting (getting up/down)
  • hinging (picking things up)
  • lunging (stairs, balance, hiking)
  • pushing/pulling (posture + upper body strength)
  • carrying (core + resilience)

This is how you build a body that performs in life—not just in the gym.

Is strength training safe if I have aches, pains, or old injuries?

In most cases, yes—when it’s coached correctly. We work with people dealing with:

  • low back pain
  • knee issues
  • shoulder irritation
  • hip tightness
  • joint replacements and post-PT transitions

We adjust:

  • range of motion
  • stance/grip
  • tempo and load
  • exercise selection

We don’t “push through pain.” We solve the bottleneck.

What is small group personal training?

Small group personal training (semi-private coaching) combines:

  • the energy of a class
  • with the attention of personal training

You train in a small group, but coaching is individualized:

  • technique cues
  • modifications
  • progressions
  • accountability

It’s ideal if you want guidance, structure, and results—without doing it alone.

How do I get started?

Start with a complimentary assessment / training session. We’ll:

  • learn your goals + injury history
  • assess movement and baseline strength
  • give you a clear plan for the next 30 days

No guessing. No intimidation. Just a roadmap.

How soon will I see results?

Most people feel better fast:

  • 2–3 weeks: stronger, more energy, better movement
  • 6–8 weeks: visible changes + measurable strength gains
  • Long-term: pain-free training, better body composition, confidence

Consistency beats intensity. Every time.

Do you offer nutrition and lifestyle coaching?

Yes. Because training is only one lever. We coach the basics that move the needle:

  • protein + fiber
  • steps
  • sleep + stress
  • hydration + meal timing

That’s how we build results that last.

Where are you located and who do you serve?

We’re based in Framingham, MA and serve MetroWest including: Natick, Wayland, Sudbury, Weston, Ashland and beyond. If you’re looking for personal training, small group personal training, or strength training in Framingham/MetroWest, and you want coaching that actually helps you move and feel better—this is it.

What should I expect at the fitness assessment?

We will begin our process by going through the foundations of fitness. Setting goals, breaking down ailments and restrictions, and going through the essential components(food, drink, sleep, and overall best practices).Next, we will develop a road map to get you from where you are at, to where you want to go. Before your first workout, you will be put through a movement screen(determine weak links and injury risk factors), objective info(weight, bf%, and measurements), and finally will send you an email with all the essential info that you will need to get dialed in for MO-results.

Is this gym a good fit if I haven’t worked out in years?

Yes — in fact, many of our members join after years away from the gym or start working out for the first time at IMPACT.

If you haven’t worked out in a long time(or ever), it’s normal to feel unsure about where to start. You may be concerned about stiffness, joint pain, past injuries, or simply not wanting to feel out of place in a high-intensity fitness environment.

Our strength training program is specifically designed to help adults ease back into exercise safely and confidently.

Here’s how we support beginners and those returning to fitness:

  • Every session is professionally coached
  • Exercises are scaled to your current ability level
  • We focus on proper form before adding weight
  • Workouts are structured for long-term progress, not exhaustion
  • Small group sizes ensure individual attention

You do not need to “get in shape” before joining. That’s our job.

If you’re over 40 and looking to restart strength training in a safe, supportive environment, we begin with a free training/assessment session to understand your starting point and build a clear plan.

How is strength training different from cardio workouts?

Cardio training primarily improves heart and lung endurance. Strength training builds muscle, increases bone density, and improves joint stability.

While cardio burns calories during the workout, strength training increases lean muscle mass, which supports long-term metabolic health.

For adults over 40, strength training is essential for maintaining independence, preventing injury, and supporting long-term health.
