Only 20% of People Make It This Far… Let’s Keep Going!

We’re at that time of year when most people start to lose steam on their New Year’s goals. In fact, 80% of people abandon their resolutions by February—that’s a staggering number! But here’s the thing: if you’re still here, even just thinking about staying on track, you’re already ahead of the majority.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate that. You’ve made it this far, and that’s worth something.

But here’s the truth: staying the course when the initial excitement wears off is where the real transformation happens. This is where you build resilience, grit, and the mindset that separates “thinking about goals” from crushing them.

Reconnect With Your Why

If you’re feeling your momentum slow down, don’t stress—you’re not alone. The key is to breathe life back into your purpose. And to do that, I have a simple but powerful 10-minute exercise to help.

Take 10 minutes to sit down, close your eyes, and imagine this:

  • What does your life look like a few months from now when you’ve stayed committed?
    • Picture yourself waking up every morning energized, confident, and in control. You’re not dragging yourself out of bed or dreading the day—you’re ready to own it.
  • When you look in the mirror, who do you see?
    • Imagine seeing the strong, vibrant, and healthy version of yourself you’ve been working toward. Someone who isn’t just surviving but thriving.
  • How do your friends and family react to the “new” you?
    • Picture the looks of admiration, the comments about how much happier, stronger, or more confident you seem. Imagine being the person who inspires others to step up for themselves.
  • What can you do now that you couldn’t before?
    • Maybe it’s running that 5K you’ve always dreamed of. Maybe you’re more productive at work, or you can play with your kids without getting winded. Maybe it’s finally feeling comfortable in your skin or crushing your workouts with strength and ease.
  • How does achieving your goal ripple into other areas of your life?
    • Think about the fulfillment, peace, and confidence that come with showing up for yourself. Imagine how good it feels to know you’re becoming the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Feel It, Don’t Just Think It

Here’s the secret: don’t just think about the goal—connect with it emotionally. Feel how that future version of you lives, breathes, and thrives. That vision is what will drive you forward, even when motivation fades.

This exercise isn’t just about the “what” of your goals. It’s about the “why.” When you know why you’re doing this, it becomes so much easier to show up for yourself—on the tough days, on the days you’d rather quit, on the days when life throws you a curveball.

Why This Matters

Here’s the thing: staying committed to your goals isn’t just about checking a box or hitting a number on the scale. It’s about building the type of person you want to be.

When you prioritize yourself—your health, your strength, your energy—you don’t just improve your life. You improve every life you touch. Your family, your coworkers, your friends—they all benefit from a stronger, healthier, more vibrant YOU.

Your Next Step

Take 10 minutes today (or at least this week) to reconnect with your future self. Journal your answers to the questions above. Visualize your progress. Feel the wins before they even happen. And the next time you feel like skipping a workout, making an excuse, or veering off track, come back to this exercise. Use it as your compass to remember why you started and where you’re headed.

Because guess what? You’re not just in the 20% that made it this far. You’re going to be in the 5% that actually follows through and crushes it.

This is your year. Make it count. LFG!

Committed to your success,
Coach Peter
