Hey Impact Family and Friends,

Shoulder issues can be one of the most frustrating obstacles in your fitness and day-to-day life. Whether it’s stiffness, pain, or reduced mobility, many of us have experienced the shoulder struggle at one point or another. But what if I told you there’s a way to tackle this head-on without jumping straight to imaging or invasive procedures? At Impact, we dig deep into the science and functionality of the shoulder girdle to solve problems before they become bigger issues. The shoulder is incredibly unique—it has a massive range of motion because of its structure and reliance on muscles, tendons, and neurological input/output. And while that’s a good thing, it also leaves room for dysfunction if things get off track.

Here’s the Key to Problem Solving Shoulder Issues:

We don’t just chase pain; we seek to understand the entire shoulder complex. The shoulder girdle isn’t a simple “bone and joint” system—it’s mostly soft tissue like muscle and tendons that respond heavily to neurological input (think coordination and muscle activation) and tension-length relationships. So, how do we fix that? Simple: we improve how your shoulder works through movement.

Understanding the Shoulder’s Functional Potential

The shoulder girdle has almost unlimited functional opportunities. Here’s why:

  1. Muscle Dominance: The shoulder is made up of predominantly muscles and tendons, which means it’s highly adaptable. Understanding how to leverage these structures through proper movement patterns can make or break your recovery.
  2. Length-Tension Relationships: When we talk about “length to tension,” we’re referring to how muscles function optimally when they’re stretched to the right length. Too tight, and they won’t produce enough power. Too loose, and they lose control. Balancing this is the key to shoulder function.
  3. Muscle Fiber Orientation: Muscles don’t work in isolation—they have specific directions based on their fibers, which influence how they move. Understanding these fiber orientations allows us to program movements that target the shoulder’s unique needs.
  4. Origins and Insertions Matter: Knowing where muscles originate (anchor point) and insert (move the bone) allows us to pinpoint why certain movements feel painful or restricted. Once we understand this, we can focus on the right exercises to correct it.

Once we piece together these aspects of shoulder movement, we can start working on real solutions to your pain.

Why Jumping to Imaging Might Be Premature

Now, if you’ve ever considered getting imaging done to figure out what’s going on, I’m not saying it’s never necessary. But, I will say this: the chances of finding something structurally wrong through imaging are only about 25%, and often, these findings won’t actually change the course of action. Unless there’s a serious concern (like cancer or a severe, identifiable injury), imaging is often not your first step. Your shoulder issues are more likely related to poor biomechanics, muscle imbalance, or improper movement patterns—all of which we can fix in the gym.

Why Work With Us?

Here’s the thing: the shoulder has unlimited potential for recovery when approached the right way. And while there are no guarantees in rehab, I’m confident that through strength training, mobility work, and targeted corrective exercises, we can set you on the path to feeling and moving better.

Bullet Points on WHY You Should See Coach Peter:

  • No more “guesswork”: We break down what’s really happening with your shoulder using sound biomechanics principles.
  • Custom Approach: No two shoulders are the same. We work to find the best solution based on your individual needs and movement patterns.
  • Prevents Bigger Issues: Catching and correcting shoulder imbalances early can prevent more severe injuries down the line.
  • Long-Term Fix, Not a Band-Aid: Our approach focuses on creating long-term strength and resilience, so you stay pain-free over the years.
  • Personalized Strength Training: We don’t just stretch the shoulder—we load it strategically to build muscle where it’s needed and improve overall function.

If your shoulders are making noise or causing pain, I’d love to chat. Let’s get you moving pain-free and performing at your best. Don’t wait until it gets worse—reach out and let’s start fixing it together!
