The other day, I went on a RAMPAGE speaking the truth. And here it is: If your #1 reason for strength training is to lose weight, you’re staring at the wrong target. Don’t get me wrong—there is NOTHING more effective for burning fat, building muscle, and feeling/performing at EXTRAORDINARY levels than strength training. But if you’re chasing weight loss and not fat loss, good luck.

Here’s why that mindset fails over and over again:

  • Too many variables—Hormones, DNA, metabolic shifts, and habits that hold you back.
  • The Kreb cycle (aka energy production)—If your system is running on fumes, no diet will “fix” it.
  • Poor habits—If you’re under-eating, overdoing cardio, and ignoring strength training, you’re spinning your wheels.

But let’s talk about the REAL silent killer that’s crushing people’s physical, mental, and emotional energy:

LACK OF STRENGTH TRAINING

After coaching thousands of clients over the past 20 years, here’s what I know for a fact:

  • Strength training is a miracle drug. It fixes more than you think.
  • You learn how to move and problem-solve in real-time.
  • Pain decreases, energy skyrockets and performance explodes.
  • You become more resilient. Life doesn’t just “happen” to you anymore—you attack it.

You stop stressing over food and start fueling the RIGHT way. And guess what? That’s when you start looking better naked.

Now, Let’s Get Even Deeper…

If we scanned every one of our bodies deep enough—MRIs, imaging, X-rays—you’d be SHOCKED at what we’d find. Wear and tear GALORE. 

We’re talking:

✅ Herniated discs you never knew about

✅ Rotator cuff issues that have been there for years

✅ Meniscus tears from your past that didn’t “go away”

✅ Arthritis creeping in before you even hit your 50s

✅ Spinal degeneration from years of sitting, working, and NOT moving

Guess what? Some of us feel these things, and some of us don’t. Some of us are walking around wholly symptom-free, even though our bodies have breakdowns happening under the hood. This is why “just resting” or avoiding movement isn’t the solution.

  • Herniated discs, thinking they’ll never move without pain again… but they learn how to strengthen the right muscles and go from fragile to unbreakable.
  • Rotator cuff injuries, thinking surgery is the only option… but they learn how to load properly, and they build a shoulder that can handle LIFE.
  • Meniscus tears, thinking their knees are “done,”… but they strengthen their hips, improve their ankle mobility, and suddenly, their knees don’t even hurt anymore.

The PROXY to all of this? PERFORMANCE.

Your body adapts if you train for strength, movement, and function. You become stronger than your diagnosis, stronger than your MRI, stronger than the wear and tear life has thrown at you.

This is why strength training isn’t just about lifting weights—it’s about taking control of your body and your future.

THE TRUTH:

If you’re stronger, you move better. If you move better, you do more. If you do more, you become more. And THAT is when you optimize your performance for life. Stop focusing on just losing weight. Start focusing on building strength.
